Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of England defender Djed Spence from Tottenham on a five-year contract.
The Italian champions have not disclosed the fee, while it was reported on Friday that the two clubs had agreed a $40.5 million deal, with Spurs inserting a 10% sell-on clause.
Inter announced the deal on their official website on Saturday, saying: “The English wing-back joins the Nerazzurri from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent transfer. Spence has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2031.”
Spence, who impressed for England at the World Cup, has been signed as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who joined Real Madrid earlier this close season.
Former Middlesbrough wing-back Spence, who began his career at Fulham, joined Tottenham for £12.5m in 2022 and has also had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Rennes, Leeds and Genoa.
The 26-year-old made 43 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham last season and featured in all eight of England’s World Cup matches, including starts in the semi-final defeat to Argentina and the third-place play-off win against France.
Atlético Madrid have meanwhile confirmed the signing of Cristian Romero from Tottenham on a five-year deal.
Captain Romero announced his departure from Spurs with an Instagram post on Friday where he admitted to not always being “perfect” in north London but insisted the club will always hold a place in his heart.
Argentina's Romero inspired Tottenham to Europa League success in 2025 to end a 17-year trophy drought, but exits after collecting six red cards in 156 appearances.
