Spalletti gives his verdict on Vicario after Juventus completes his signing

It has been widely reported that Luciano Spalletti does not fancy working with Guglielmo Vicario, and the manager famously questioned why Tottenham would want to get rid of him this summer.

However, Juventus have now agreed a deal to sign the Italian on loan from Spurs after missing out on the other goalkeepers they had been pursuing. Vicario became their only option when late moves for Zion Suzuki and Emiliano Martinez failed to materialise in the last few days.

Juventus Secure Vicario Move

Vicario had been keen on the move for several weeks after telling Spurs that he wanted to leave, and his preference had always been to return to Serie A.

Juventus are the biggest club in Italian football, so there was no other club he could have wanted to join more as the Old Lady pushed to make the move happen. Vicario will now complete the formalities of the transfer and begin a new chapter with the Bianconeri.

The move means Spalletti will get the goalkeeper he wanted, despite reports that the manager had doubts about Vicario. With Juventus having failed to complete their other pursuits, the Italian has now become their choice between the posts.

Spalletti Praises Vicario’s Quality

Spalletti has now offered a positive assessment of the Tottenham goalkeeper, making it clear that he knows Vicario well and believes he has the experience and maturity required to succeed.

He said via Calciomercato:

“Vicar? I’m satisfied, it was one of those we had in our sights. There have been situations that have lengthened based on what are normal situations in the processes of picking up players. I’m happy, I know Guglielmo very well, he’s an experienced goalkeeper who already has maturity, but he’s still young. The last period hasn’t been so positive because we don’t know what happened at Tottenham, but he’s a great player.”

Spalletti’s comments suggest that he remains confident in Vicario’s ability despite the goalkeeper’s difficult recent period at Tottenham. Juventus will now hope he can prove his quality in Serie A and establish himself as an important player for the club.
