Saturday was a big day for the Kentucky basketball team and coach Mark Pope. On Friday, a Kentucky judge ruled that forward Mark Mitchell would get another season of college basketball and could transfer to the school of his choice. A day later, Mitchell committed to Kentucky. It's a big win for Pope and the Wildcats. Mitchell averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds per game last season for Missouri, and made over 38% of his three pointers. So he can play. He also brings toughness and a steady veteran presence to the frontcourt. Fans immediately took to social media to celebrate the addition of Mitchell. He's a player who is good enough to push Kentucky to the next level, and possibly a deep NCAA Tournament run. There is reason for cautious optimism. An NCAA appeal of the decision is sure to come, but for now, here is a sampling of what Big Blue Nation had to say on X about Mitchell's addition to an already talented team. A word from Cody Fueger

Mark Pope rose to the occasion with his back against the wall and built a squad! All you have to do is win now! They just need to be prepared to fight the NCAA and sadly, their own conference commissioner to keep Mark Mitchell eligible. Adding Mark Mitchell means UK is stacked. I’m not gonna get too excited because Pope still has a lot to prove. How he manages this roster & how the pieces fit will ultimately determine if UK can get back where they belong up top. #BBN — StoneWallStogie (@WallsOfSteel1) August 23, 2026
Mark Mitchell is basically the type of player Kentucky has been missing for a while. When shots aren’t falling, he can go get a one on one bucket. Plus he can still knock down some outside shots, 39% last year — … (@HpEazzzy) August 23, 2026
Mark Mitchell, Malachi Moreno, Milan Momcilovic, Alex Wilkins, Zoom Diallo. Yeah… That’ll Play 😈😮💨😼 pic.twitter.com/wr5B4ipxBg — Wildcats Den (@BigBlueFan854) August 23, 2026
Milan Momcilovic + Mark Mitchell is a nice pairing for Kentucky: roving movement shooting of Momcilovic amplified by Mitchell’s off-ball screens, slips and slashing. — Brian Geisinger (@bgeis_bird) August 23, 2026

Case to be made that Milan Momcilovic and Mark Mitchell were the two best players to transfer this offseason; will now become one of the elite duos in college basketball -- and should fit really well alongside one another. Kentucky squarely in the preseason top-10 conversation. https://t.co/VIjaqqaVtV — Jeff Borzello (@jeffborzello) August 22, 2026 This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Social media reacts to Mark Mitchell committing to Kentucky
