The first batch of precision-machined aerospace components was shipped to Sigma’s UK operations for final verification before their delivery to customers, an official release said.
The 75,000 sft facility, developed as part of a larger 500,000 sft campus, has a production capacity of 100,000 annual machining hours now. It was designed to scale up to nearly 300,000 annual machining hours.
The Sri City facility is being developed to replicate Sigma UK’s established aerospace manufacturing capabilities in India, progressively bringing a larger share of the aerospace manufacturing value chain to the State.
The Sri City operation has also completed the initial stages of the source-change approval process with Rolls-Royce Aerospace, underscoring the facility’s ability to meet the stringent quality and manufacturing standards required by leading global aerospace programmes.
The remaining portion of the Sri City campus is expected to become operational over the next 12 months, which will strengthen the facility’s manufacturing and aerospace-critical capabilities.
Commenting on the development, SAS CEO Sunil Kalidindi said that Sri City represented an important milestone in the company’s evolution as a global aerospace manufacturing partner.
He said that the company had moved from a greenfield facility to production in just eight months and began manufacturing aerospace components in India to the standards required by global programmes.
“Our objective is not simply to add machining capacity in India but to replicate the manufacturing capabilities we have in the U.K. and progressively bring a larger part of the aerospace manufacturing value chain into India,” Mr. Sunil added.
