The SEC says that it’s looking for an “appropriate resolution” after its presidents and chancellors met on Thursday following the drama surrounding LSU’s pursuit of players who had signed NFL contracts.
The meeting was held a day after a hearing in the conference’s suit against LSU and coach Lane Kiffin was continued. That continuance came after LSU filled its final two roster spots on Tuesday evening and left no space to add former Ole Miss DT Zxavian Harris and ex-Rebels TE Dae’Quan Wright to the roster in 2026. The two players had signed contracts with NFL teams but were cut during the preseason. They were eligible to return for a fifth season of college football after a Louisiana judge ruled that they should be granted an extra year following the NCAA’s decision to give all college athletes in the class of 2023 and younger five years to play five seasons.
“The presidents and chancellors of the Southeastern Conference met Thursday by videoconference to discuss recent matters involving conference expectations and responsibilities,” the SEC’s brief statement said. “Those discussions will continue as the conference and its member universities work toward an appropriate resolution.”
