It's a life lesson, but it carries more weight when discussing the Philadelphia Eagles offense led by a quarterback who has already navigated multiple coordinator changes. As most know, the keys were handed to Sean Mannion this offseason, and there were understandable questions about how quickly the transition would take. After all, Mannion isn't simply tweaking what already existed. He's installing an offense that looks noticeably different from what Eagles fans have grown accustomed to seeing. New terminology, new concepts, more under-center formations, more pre-snap motion, more play-action and a greater emphasis on attacking different areas of the field have all become part of the conversation. The concerns were fair. The early returns, however, have been encouraging. Jalen Hurts is enjoying the calibration. His offensive teammates seem to agree. The Mannion conversation continues to evolve, shifting from debates about what to expect to broader national commentary on how exciting this could become. That's notable praise considering how many changes Philadelphia has undertaken this offseason.
"Anyone else getting the big warm and fuzzies out of Philadelphia? Quarterback Jalen Hurts reportedly looks sleeker and faster, which is a big deal in and of itself. Last season, he had his fewest rushes (105) and rush yards (421) since his rookie season (2020), and when he ran, he produced his lowest yards per carry (4.0). Solak also suggests much of the optimism centers around the way Jalen Hurts has adapted to the new system. Reports throughout camp have suggested Hurts looks comfortable operating within Mannion's scheme while showing renewed confidence attacking areas of the field that haven't always been staples of his game. That's an important development because the offense isn't simply asking Hurts to do what he's always done. Adding the new (and essential) elements of innovative offense should help create opportunities not only for Hurts but also for stars such as Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. The optimism extends beyond the scheme itself. One of the more common critiques of Philadelphia's offense last season was that it occasionally felt stagnant. Injuries played a role, but there were stretches when the attack lacked the creativity and unpredictability that had previously made it one of the league's most dangerous units. Simply introducing fresh ideas and new answers to old problems could prove beneficial. Of course, training camp praise doesn't guarantee regular-season success. Mannion has never called plays at the NFL level, and meaningful evaluations won't begin until the games count. The preseason may offer a glimpse into how smoothly the operation functions, but the real test arrives in September. Still, it feels as though the conversation has shifted. Earlier this offseason, many wondered whether Philadelphia's offensive experiment would work. Now, the growing question seems to be how much better the Eagles can become if it does. For a team with championship aspirations, that's a much more encouraging place to be. Things are looking up as Philadelphia continues to navigate its offseason.
