The Seattle Seahawks did their homework on Terrion Arnold, and now they're taking the gamble. After spending more than a month monitoring the former Detroit Lions first-rounder, the reigning Super Bowl champions plan to sign Arnold despite the 23-year-old facing eight felony charges stemming from an alleged robbery and kidnapping plot in Florida, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Arnold also visited the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints and New York Giants during his time as a free agent. Arnold's agent originally revealed Seattle had been "in touch" after Detroit released the former No. 24 overall pick on June 29. But the Seahawks didn't stop there. Arnold eventually returned to Seattle for an official tryout, giving Mike Macdonald and company an opportunity to evaluate him more closely. Macdonald confirmed the team's interest afterward and described the workout as "great." "We're interested," Macdonald said. Coach wasn't lying. READ MORE: Mike Macdonald's NSFW 'Hard Knocks' Blowup Sends Strong Seahawks Message  And strictly from a football perspective, it's not particularly difficult to understand the intrigue.  Detroit selected Arnold No. 24 overall in 2024 following a first-team All-American season at Alabama. He appeared in 24 games with 22 starts over two seasons for the Lions, recording 91 tackles, 18 passes defensed and one interception before his release. Now ... he'll join an already talented Seattle secondary at an interesting time.  Devon Witherspoon remains the unquestioned centerpiece, but the three-time Pro Bowler's long-term future has become one of the Seahawks' lingering offseason storylines. Seattle exercised his fifth-year option in March, keeping him under contract through 2027, while the two sides continue working toward what could become one of the NFL's richest cornerback deals — if not the richest. As we've covered at SeahawksRoundtable.com, Witherspoon isn't allowing those negotiations to become much of a distraction. Arnold's arrival shouldn't be interpreted as insurance against Witherspoon leaving ... nor is it an indication of where the negotiations stand. Witherspoon is under contract through next season, and the organization is actively attempting to keep its star corner around long-term. It does, however, add another young talent to a secondary already featuring Witherspoon, Julian Love and Nick Emmanwori. The much larger question is everything that comes with Arnold away from football. Arnold faces four counts of robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and four counts of kidnapping stemming from allegations that he helped orchestrate the detention and beating of three men he believed had stolen from him. Arnold has denied involvement. Keep in mind: Those allegations aren't a footnote to this signing. They're the reason a 23-year-old former first-round pick was available to begin with. Seattle knew that when it initially made contact. It knew it when Arnold came to town for a tryout. Macdonald even acknowledged publicly that the Seahawks needed to evaluate more than Arnold's ability to play cornerback before making a decision. And now they've made one.  The football upside has never been particularly difficult to see. Everything that is attached to it, though, is the gamble Seattle decided was worth taking.
