Science Hill’s Kiantai Harris named Week 2 Player of the Week

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Science Hill running back Kiantai Harris ran his way into the school record books Friday night. The junior rushed for a single-game school record 367 yards on 25 carries and scored four touchdowns in the Hilltoppers’ 49-28 win over Morristown West. “I really didn’t wake up thinking I was going to do the record, but the coaches gave me the opportunity and I took it,” Harris said. “I didn’t look back, and I’m grateful that I got the record. It feels great.” Science Hill head coach Stacy Carter said Harris’ performance showcased what makes the junior a special player. “A record that stands since 1988 is pretty special,” Carter said. “He made some unbelievable runs, and there’s just not many kids that can do what he’s done.” Harris credits his combination of speed and power to the work he put in during the offseason. He competed in track during the spring, spent time in the weight room getting stronger and participated in additional workouts around the state. Now, Harris is hoping his record-setting performance is only the beginning. “My goal, I want to be all-conference this year, maybe all-regional, win a state championship obviously, and just make my mom proud,” Harris said.
