The kickoff is underway in Seattle as the Seahawks host the New England Patriots. Seattle raised its second banner in franchise history on Wednesday night as it begins its pursuit of a third Super Bowl title in 2026.
However, a turn of events occurred early in the game. Halfway through the first quarter, quarterback Sam Darnold was sacked and limped off the field.
Darnold entered the blue tent for evaluation after just five offensive plays in 2026. He has since been escorted to the locker room for further evaluation.

Darnold’s status remains unknown as the Seahawks continue to evaluate the quarterback. There has been no immediate indication of the severity of the injury or whether he will be able to return to the game.The timing is particularly notable given what Darnold accomplished in his first season with Seattle. After signing with the Seahawks last offseason, Darnold helped lead the team to one of the best seasons in franchise history.
