With the impending addition of Rodrigo Mora, Roma’s already impressive collection of U-23s is bursting at the seams. The 19-year-old midfielder will add a dash of class and excitement to Roma’s midfield. Whether he’s lining up behind the strikers or playing in a slightly wider position, Mora has the chance to make a real impact this season and promises to be a pillar of the club going forward.

While the city of Rome is atwitter with Rodrigo Mora’s arrival (well, at least the red and yellow side of the city), adding the prodigious young playmaker won’t solve the riddle at left wing-back. As we head into the new season, it appears that Wesley França, who has traditionally played on the opposite flank, will move to a full-time left-wing role, leaving Nahuel Molina and Devyne Rensch to hold down the fort on the right.

However, with nearly 50 matches to divvy up among the wing-backs, Roma needs another set of healthy legs to support Wesley, Molina, and Rensch. And if those legs happened to be attached to Alessio Cacciamani, all the better. We discussed the merits of the dynamic up-and-comer earlier this summer. While the trail never cooled, Urban Cairo and Torino have been a tough nut to crack—to no one’s surprise.

Roma has other options at the position, namely Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie and Inter Milan’s Luis Henrique, but according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Giallorossi haven’t given up on Cacciamani. While their initial €12 million offer was rejected outright, Di Marzio suggests Roma will approach Torino again, reportedly upping their offer closer to Torino’s €20 million demand.

Investing heavily in another 19-year-old is a risk, but Cacciamani seems ideally suited to life under Gasperini.
