Roger Federer enjoyed two exhibition victories at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Tuesday as he returned to the US Open court.
A packed crowd witnessed the 45-year-old defeat Andy Roddick in an exhibition match promoted as “An Icon Returns to New York.”
Following that singles victory, the eight-time Wimbledon champion partnered with John McEnroe to defeat Roddick, himself shortly to turn 44, and Andre Agassi.
It was the first time since 2019 that Federer had played on the court where he won five consecutive US Open men’s titles between 2004 and 2008.
“It’s great to be back in New York,” said the 20-time Grand Slam champion.
“I have incredible memories of this court, the fans here and the city. In 2004 and 2005, that’s when it all started here, my love for New York, with the victories here.”
