Conservative political activist Riley Gaines has shared her support for Sophie Cunningham’s stance on trans athletes in the WNBA, but is upset that Caitlin Clark has not done the same.
The debate over trans athletes in the WNBA seems to be getting more heated by the day, and more people are coming out with statements on one side or the other.
Cunningham’s teammate Clark has refused to pick a side in this debate since it started, but now she’s taking fire for her neutral stance.
Riley Gaines criticises Caitlin Clark’s neutral perspective
Gaines appeared on ‘The Charlie Kirk Show’ and criticised Clark for not taking a hardline stance while insinuating that Clark personally agrees with the anti-trans side but isn’t saying it publicly.
“I think my main problem with Caitlin Clark in all of this isn’t that she isn’t necessarily taking a hardline stance, because we can tell.”
“I think it’s safe to assume what Caitlin Clark thinks about this issue. I’m not gonna say what I know personally and how she thinks on this issue, but it’s safe to assume how she feels about this issue when asked about it.”
There is no basis for Gaines to make personal assumptions on the matter, unless she is implying she has directly spoken to Clark to know her personal feelings on the matter.
Clark has made it clear that she wants the Fever and their fans focused on their upcoming playoff run, not off-court distractions over imagined enemies.
There is no eligible trans athlete even on the draft radar of any of these teams, so the opposition to trans athletes in the WNBA seems not to be as pressing a concern as it has been made out to be.
Clark likely understands the same and is focusing her attention where it needs to be, rather than losing sleep over how political fans are painting her.
Clark is averaging 22.1 points, 8.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds this season as an MVP candidate on the 25-14 Fever, who have already locked up a playoff spot.
