Boston Red Sox catcher Adley Rutschman Adley Rutschman was on the injured list with a wrist injury when the Boston Red Sox acquired him, and he is now dealing with an elbow injury. He hyperextended his elbow on Aug. 24 against the Miami Marlins. He missed the next two games, but was back in the lineup after that. However, he has been kept out of the lineup for all of the games against the Seattle Mariners. Chad Tracy recently said that the elbow injury is something that will likely be an issue for the rest of the year, but he provided an update on Wednesday. "Adley Rutschman is available but out of the lineup again today while managing his elbow injury," reported The Boston Globe's Alex Speier. "For now, Chad Tracy said the Sox aren’t too concerned about an IL stint, as the MRI showed swelling/bruising but no structural." The fact that there is no structural damage is a good sign, but the reality is the Red Sox need Rutschman to perform better. He was an All-Star this year, but has a .500 OPS as a member of the Red Sox. The team gave up Kyson Witherspoon, Enddy Azocar, Carlos Narváez, Anthony Eyanson and Harold Rivas to get him, and will need to see better results to make the deal worth it.

According to The Boston Globe's Tim Healey, the team is "hopeful" that Rutschman is in the lineup on Thursday. The Red Sox will be facing his former team, the Baltimore Orioles, in a four-game series after Wednesday's series finale against the Mariners.
