Texas Tech is once again benefitting from the recent college eligibility court rulings.

After landing Darrion Williams and Jamichael Stillwell, Donovan Atwell is also officially back with the Red Raiders for his fifth collegiate season. Williams, Stillwell and Atwell each recently became eligible for a fifth year after a court ruling that allowed Class of 2022 athletes to be grandfathered into the NCAA's new "five-for-five" eligibility rule.

The school announced Atwell's return Monday night.

Atwell spent his first three years at UNC-Greensboro before transferring to Tech for the 2025-26 season. In his first season with the Red Raiders, Atwell averaged 13.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting a torrid 45.8% from 3-point range. His shooting will be a welcome boost to this year's team, as Atwell set a Tech single-season record with 130 3-pointers last season. He also set a Big 12 record for most 3-pointers during conference play with 81 triples and earned an All-Big 12 honorable mention nod.

He suited up for the Bulls during NBA Summer League, but never officially signed his Exhibit 10 deal with Chicago.

With the additions of Williams, Stillwell and Atwell this late in the game, it's safe to say the Red Raiders' roster got an unexpected and significant boost at the end of the summer.
