The best rebounder in Colorado State men's basketball history is back with the Rams.
Nico Carvacho is joining Ali Farokhmanesh's staff as a graduate assistant after the center recently announced his retirement from professional basketball.
Carvacho played at CSU from 2015-20 and left as CSU and the Mountain West's all-time leader in rebounds (1,295) and double-doubles (49). He was also the only player in MW history to have 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points in his career.
When he left, Carvacho was CSU's record-holder in games played (132) and started (129).
Carvacho announced his retirement from pro basketball on Aug. 9 as injuries have mounted in recent seasons. Carvacho played professionally in several leagues, including in Germany, Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria and Israel as well as playing for the Chile national team.
In his retirement post, Carvacho left the door open to return to play for Chile.
"The hardest part of this decision was how this would affect me with defending Chile as wearing La Roja has been one of my most prideful decisions. My goal is to continue to honor and play with the Chilean National Team if needed and when it is possible," he wrote.
In addition to bringing Carvacho into the coaching fold, CSU announced Sept. 2 that former Ram Baylor Hebb (who was on staff last season as a graduate assistant) has been elevated to director of player personnel. Former head manager Parker Teff has been hired as a graduate assistant.
