Rams sign WR Alex Bachman, waive injured WR Mario Williams

The Los Angeles Rams shuffled their wide receiver room this week. The team announced it signed Alex Bachman while waiving Mario Williams with an injury designation. Bachman, 26, returns to the organization that gave him his first NFL opportunity. The Rams originally signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest in 2019, where he posted 82 catches for 1,162 yards and 10 touchdowns over 32 games and ran a sub-4.5 40-yard dash for the Demon Deacons. He was waived that summer and has since bounced around the league, spending time with the Giants, Texans and, most recently, the Raiders. Bachman has carved out a niche as a special-teamer and depth receiver, appearing in games with all three of those clubs and making his first career start in 2024 — fittingly, against the Rams. Williams, meanwhile, exits Los Angeles for the second time under nearly identical circumstances. The Rams waived him with an injury designation in August 2025 after he flashed in the preseason, catching two passes for 46 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers while adding 40 return yards in the same game. He went unclaimed, reverted to injured reserve and ultimately settled his contract, missing the entire 2025 season. Williams stuck around the organization on a reserve/future deal this offseason, giving him another shot at the 53-man roster, but a fresh injury designation now puts his 2026 season in doubt before it starts. He injured his hamstring in the preseason opener on Saturday against the Chiefs. Bachman is a long shot to make the Rams' 53-man roster, but he could show off some promise during the preseason.
