Joshua Walker’s unofficial debut as Hawaii’s women’s volleyball place will have to wait an extra two days.
Saturday’s exhibition match at Hawaii Hilo in Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium was canceled on Thursday due to the threat of approaching Tropical Storm Lala.
The Rainbow Wahine, who were supposed to leave for the Big Island today, also had to cancel this evening’s keiki clinic.

UH will instead take the floor in front of fans for the first time on Monday against Chaminade at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
That match is 11 days before the regular-season opener against Georgia Southern in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Classic on Aug. 28.
Walker said earlier this week he was excited to break up fall camp by playing against other teams.
“Practice a travel trip, practice a home game, just to kind of make sure we have all of those logistics worked out, even how we’re doing timeouts, all of those kind of things,” Walker said. “Also, if there is something we need to pivot or something we want to see more of before the season starts, we have time to actually implement those things sooner than later. Hopefully we can put our best foot forward the first weekend.”
Hawaii County remained on hurricane watch Thursday night while the storm is expected to pass south of the rest of the island chain, including Oahu, over the weekend.
Monday’s match against the Silverswords is not currently in jeopardy of being canceled.
