Earlier on today, PSG played Coupe de France winners, RC Lens, in the Trophee des Champions, losing the game 1-0 thanks to a Florian Thauvin goal, despite the hosts being a man down for a large period of the game.

Something that did not go unnoticed before the game was the match day squad exclusion of wingers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, despite being named in the travelling squad by manager Luis Enrique.

This is clearly particularly noticeable considering the heavy transfer rumours, with English Premier League side Liverpool being linked to both players a number of times during this summer transfer window.

Furthermore, these exclusions came despite the fact that new signings, Ferran Torres (FC Barcelona) and Mika Godts (AFC Ajax) were not registered in time to be involved in the game.

Many had assumed that both players would be named in the squad - potentially for the very last time - before Torres and Godts would them be registered in time for the Ligue 1 opener against Rennes, allowing those two to finally depart the club, in theory.

Well, considering that was not the case, it perhaps implies that moves away are close. Though we do know that Enrique does not like to play players who want to leave the club, wanting full commitment from everyone, so perhaps it is just simply more to do with that.

It would be hard to keep a happy camp with those two staying at the club, alongside those two new signings, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Maghnes Akliouche and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all competing for three different spots, and we know how much the gaffer values squad harmony, like most managers tend to do.

So, it feels like the best thing for everyone involved is for both players to move on. However, at the same time, the club will want to get what they want. You ideally don't want to accept a cheap deal just because they want to leave. You still want to get a good fee.

However, you're probably unlikely to get what you may have once wanted, considering the buying club will be aware of the situation and be attentive to it. So there is probably a middle ground to be met somewhere. Will we see that happen this transfer window? We shall have to wait and see, but it's certainly going to be an interesting two and a bit weeks, particularly with the Premier League and Ligue 1 both starting next weekend. Let's see.
