Police issue directives to club, bar operators across Coimbatore district

Coimbatore police enforce strict compliance for clubs and bars to ensure safety and prevent incidents linked to liquor sales.

Police issue directives to club, bar operators across Coimbatore district
The Coimbatore City Police and the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police have issued directions to FL2 (clubs) and FL3 (bars in hotels) licence holders to strictly comply with norms with regard to their operations, in the wake of at least two murders and a clash that were linked to retail sale of liquor.

The police instructed operators of FL2 licensed clubs, locally known as ‘11 to 11 bars’, not to sell liquor to non-members as the licence is meant to sell liquor exclusively to registered members and eligible guests. Clubs were instructed not to sell liquor to persons below 21 years of age under any circumstance. They were told to maintain records of members.

While the City Police Commissioner N. Kannan convened separate meetings for FL2 and FL3 operators on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, the District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy held a meeting for both licence holders in his jurisdiction on Wednesday. The officers warned of initiating severe action against licence holders for non-compliance of their instructions.

Operators of clubs and bars were told to strictly adhere to the permitted operating hours, maintain accurate stock registers, and log visitor attendance and identity details. Clubs and bars should have surveillance camera coverage round the lock and any suspicious activity should be reported to the police. Liquor served within the licensed premises should not be allowed to be taken outside the premises under any circumstance.

Though the committed the crime when they were consuming liquor, which was purchased from an FL2 licenced club as parcel, on an adjacent plot of land.
