Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday invoked a new framework of seven “streams of strength”, or ‘Sapta Dhara’, that he said would help India accelerate its journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat. The seven areas identified by the Prime Minister are manufacturing, farming, technology, Gati Shakti, defence, the green economy and soft power.Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Modi said India needed a new current of growth to achieve what had remained unfinished over the previous decades.133255219“Today, I would also like to recall that era when the nation knew, understood, and heard of India's prowess in the form of the 'Sapta Sindhu'. Now, to build a Viksit Bharat, we need a new current. Today, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I invoke the 'Sapta Dhara' of strength before the nation,” he said.Modi said the seven areas could help India achieve in the next five to seven years what could not be achieved in the previous five to seven decades.“In the coming 5 to 7 years, what could not be achieved in the last 5 to 7 decades, through the prowess and power of this Sapta Dhara, we will give the nation new heights, new momentum, and the capability to surpass new goals,” he said.India@79: Track all LIVE updates hereHe said the goal is not to focus on just one sector. "The goal should be to move forward with a holistic approach," Modi said.Manufacturing powerModi identified manufacturing as the first strength of the Saptadhara and called for India to build a complete value chain, from design to manufacturing.“Today, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I call upon the nation to embrace 'Shakti Ki Saptadhara'. When I speak of the Saptadhara, the first strength is our manufacturing power. We must build a complete value chain. From design to manufacturing, India must establish itself as a trusted global supply chain partner for the world. We must rise to global standards of cost, quality and scale,” he said.133253592Agriculture and food productionAgriculture and food production form the second stream of the framework. Modi said expanding global markets and India's free trade agreements would create opportunities for Indian farm products.“The second strength of this Saptadhara is agriculture and food production.Today, global markets are opening up, and through FTAs, we are gaining access to vast new markets.Whether it is our spices or millets, they must become global brands,” he said.Technology and innovationTechnology and innovation were identified as the third strength, with Modi pointing to artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum technology, space and data centres as key areas for India.“The third strength of the Saptadhara is technology and innovation. This is the era of robotics, AI, quantum technology, space and data centres. Emerging technologies are presenting new challenges, and we must become a global hub of innovation. We have already demonstrated our strength through UPI and Digital Public Infrastructure. Now, we must take the next leap in next generation communication technology,” Modi said.Gati ShaktiThe fourth stream is Gati Shakti, with Modi stressing faster connectivity between cities and the development of ports.“The fourth strength of the Saptadhara is Gati Shakti. We must emphasise seamless and high speed connectivity. Our cities must be connected through high speed rail. We must also focus on port-led development,” he said.Defence powerDefence power is the fifth stream, with Modi making self-reliance and India's emergence as a global defence supplier central to his pitch.“The fifth strength of the Saptadhara is Defence Power. It is important for us to become self reliant in defence. When the world is thinking about itself, India cannot remain merely a market for the world. We have to become global suppliers. We have to take leadership in hypersonic defence technologies,” he said.Modi’s call for greater defence self-reliance comes against the backdrop of a sharp rise in India’s domestic defence production and exports.India’s domestic defence production reached ₹1.78 lakh crore in FY26, up from ₹46,000 crore in 2014, according to the latest government data. Defence exports also rose to ₹38,424 crore in FY26.The government has rolled out a series of policy measures in recent years to expand domestic defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday that military projects worth more than ₹8.75 lakh crore had been approved in the last year as the government works to modernise the armed forces.Green and Blue EconomyThe sixth stream combines the green and blue economies. The PM called for India to take a leadership role in green hydrogen, renewable energy and energy storage, while also expanding opportunities in the blue economy.“The sixth strength of the Saptadhara is the Green and Blue Economy. India must achieve global leadership in green hydrogen, renewable energy and energy storage, while continuing to provide solutions to global challenges. The Blue Economy, too, offers immense opportunities in fisheries, coastal tourism and ocean technology, opening new pathways for India’s growth,” he said.India’s soft powerIndia’s soft power forms the seventh and final stream of the Saptadhara. Modi cited yoga as an example of India's global cultural reach and its ability to build trust.“The seventh strength of the Saptadhara is India’s soft power. Today, Yoga has connected the entire world with India. Yoga is becoming a source of energy for the world and a major source of trust in India. These seven strengths are not merely a pathway to progress in individual sectors, but represent a holistic approach,” he said.Youth to power the next phaseModi also linked the ‘Sapta Dhara’ framework with India’s young population, saying the potential of the country’s youth would be fully harnessed in nation-building.“Alongside this, the immense potential of our youth will be fully harnessed in nation-building. Their energy, talent and strength will be brought together and channelled towards building a stronger and more developed India,” the PM said.He added, “The youth have a big role in the journey to become a Viksit Bharat. The biggest beneficiaries of Viksit Bharat will be the youth of the country.”
