Pitt State women’s soccer edges out Quincy for third-straight shutout victory

PITTSBURG, KS. — Pitt State women's soccer advanced to 3-0 overall after edging out Quincy 1-0 at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Wednesday.

The Gorillas found their spark on offense early, redshirt senior midfielder Avianna Gonzalez scored a goal in the first three minutes of the match.

Pitt State then turned its attention to defense as junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Kramar made four saves in the shutout victory.

In the second half, the Gorillas continued to hold onto their 1-0 lead. Senior forward Ryann Caruth played a dangerous ball across the box, but the Hawks' defense was stout.

However, Pitt State's offense went to work, continuing to add pressure to Quincy's defense. Junior midfielder Sammie Edwards took a shot that hit the crossbar. The hosts finished with 15 shots, including five on goal.

It was a back-and-forth battle, but Pitt State's stout defense kept the Hawks off the scoreboard and earned the Gorillas their third-straight shutout win.

PSU women's soccer will be on the road Saturday, September 5 to play Southern Nazarene at 10:00 a.m.
