The Philadelphia Phillies are heading into one of the most anticipated games on their 2026 schedule with their postseason hopes hanging in the balance.

Thursday’s Field of Dreams matchup against the Minnesota Twins comes at a particularly important point in the season. Philadelphia entered the game at 64-58, tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League’s final Wild Card position. And the Twins are in their own playoff hunt.

The Phillies’ record in the second half of the season makes the health of Bryce Harper an especially important storyline going into the Field of Dreams game as well. The Phillies star has been dealing with a knee issue while adjusting to a defensive role he had not played regularly in years.

Philadelphia Phillies Superstar Bryce Harper Addresses Injury Concern As Concerns Mount

Harper’s left knee soreness resurfaced after he returned to the outfield to accommodate a new teammate, creating some concern about whether the physical demands of the position could affect the franchise slugger.

“Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper has been battling left knee soreness that reemerged last week after returning to play the outfield for the first time in four years,” ESPN reported on Tuesday. “Harper said he initially injured the knee during a game on July 11 but that the pain died down after the All-Star break. It has returned since he has gone back to right field in the wake of the Luis Arraez acquisition ahead of last week's trade deadline.”

That made Harper’s status heading into the Field of Dreams Game worth watching, particularly with Philadelphia relying heavily on him during a tight Wild Card race.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper Sends Three-Word Injury Response

The injury concerns around Harper only grew after a harsh at-bat in the team’s Friday loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, which featured some noticeable discomfort.

Given the reemerging knee issue, Harper was asked about that reaction during the game and he offered a three-word response to concerned onlookers.

“I was good,” Harper said, according to The Athletic’s Charlotte Varnes.

Harper recorded the team’s only hit in that game as it suffered a blowout loss and dropped another series ahead of the showcase in Iowa. But he added that his visible discomfort at the plate wasn’t due to his knee injury, but because of a tough matchup with the Cardinals’ pitcher.

“(I) took two really bad swings, so needed to keep my composure a little bit,” Harper added, per Varnes.
