New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels likes what he’s seen from left tackle Will Campbell throughout all the phases of the team’s preparation for the 2026 NFL season.
According to Patriots Wire’s Sophie Weller, McDaniels lauded Campbell for his strong work during the spring and training camp prior to the team’s practice on Sunday.
"I don't look of it as a rebound,” McDaniels said regarding what he’s seen from Campbell after his poor conclusion to the 2025 season. “I look at it as the progression of a second year player… I think he's had a good mindset all year. Really good mindset. Locked in. Good spring. Good camp."
Campbell, New England’s first-round pick in 2025, showed promise as a rookie. He had his share of highs, but with that also came lows, particularly in the Super Bowl, where he allowed 14 total pressures against the Seattle Seahawks in a losing effort with the Patriots. His first season provided a variety of lessons, giving him areas to address during the offseason.
The 22-year-old Campbell now enters his second season in the league with more experience and momentum going his way. His progress will be particularly important for a Patriots offense looking to keep quarterback Drake Maye protected and maintain consistency up front.
McDaniels’ assessment sheds additional light into the favor that Campbell has found with his offseason preparation that will translate into a significant step forward once the 17-game slate begins.
