The PikeView Panthers made quite the turnaround last season when it came to their football team. While a playoff win did evade them, they're thinking playoffs again this year, with a deep run also a possibility. Before last season, you'd have to go all the way back to 2010 to find when the PikeView Panthers last qualified for the playoffs. Back then, the iPad first made its debut, Instagram was officially launched, and current Coach Jack Turner was still coaching high school football in Virginia. Head Coach Jack Turner made his debut for the Panthers back in 2024, and still to this day, he puts in one hundred and ten percent effort during practice. "Some people think it's hard nose, old school, mean, whatever, but it's just - you're trying to set that standard and make sure everyone understands the standard," remarks Coach Turner. "If you want to be successful, it's something you have to have a little bit of passion for and a little bit of 'want to' about you." This level of effort appears to be working on this Panthers squad. It was just two years ago that this team went 0-10 to end their 2023 campaign. But now, this team is coming off their first winning season in awhile. For Head Coach Turner, he credits his players for sticking with him during the process. "The kids here have worked unbelievably hard for me, and I am so proud of them. I can't determine wins or loses, Lord if I could, I'd play the lottery and have blonde hair again. But all I can control is how hard we work and they work hard for me, I love these boys," he comments. This Panthers team has the potential to make even more noise in triple-A this season. Of the teams that the Panthers will be facing this season, six out of the nine are all coming off losing seasons. But to make any noise, Turner wants all of PikeView High School to come out and support this squad. "Our school does a phenomenal job of supporting our sports teams. Last spring, we had an unbelievable baseball team, softball team, and track-and-field team. Our school and our administration does a great job supporting all the sports teams here," he stated. The Panthers will open up the season by taking on the Summers County Bobcats.
