Enzo Fernandez’s precarious situation at Chelsea just got even more dodgy with the news that there’s a deadline to sign him.

Late last night, David Ornstein dropped in with an interesting twist in the Enzo Fernandez situation – a detailed view of where both the midfielder and Chelsea stand as he tries to force a move away.

The headline was a deadline set by Chelsea – the Blues have apparently told Manchester City (the only team still actively pursuing Fernandez, according to the rumours) that they want £120m for the midfielder, and they want it by Friday. They won’t consider offers made after that.

This saga has dragged on long enough, and the club want a decisive end sooner rather than later. There’s no indication that City are going to stick to that timetable.

Chelsea set hard Friday deadline for Enzo bids

It’s a reasonable stance for the Blues to take. Enzo trained for the first time with his teammates and new manager yesterday. It’s one thing having this going on in the background, but it can’t be allowed to distract or disrupt preparations for the new season.

By setting a deadline (and then briefing the press about it) the Blues are making it clear to everyone what their stance is. If City don’t make the offer Chelsea want, Enzo Fernandez knows who to blame.

In other news…

Ornstein’s specific claims backed up what we had already heard from Fabrizio Romano, who said that a decision was coming by the “end of the week.”

The most unbelievable rumour we’ve heard today is that Bayern Munich are after Romeo Lavia.
