New details have emerged in the Ruben Vargas case, as Italian reports of Bologna’s interest in the Swiss midfielder from Sevilla grow, while Olympiacos’ negotiations to sign him are at an advanced stage.
Gianluca Di Marzio revealed Bologna’s attempt to enter the race for the 28-year-old, noting that his future could be decided in the coming hours. According to the Italian journalist, talks between Sevilla and Olympiacos have progressed significantly, but the Emilia-Romagna club made a move last night.
Bologna are weighing options on the wing, with the possible departure of Jonathan Rowe, also linked with a move to Atalanta, in mind. Vargas is among the options under consideration.
Meanwhile, “Zona Mercato Live” reported that Bologna are considering several players for the position. Along with Vargas, the list includes Samuel Bangula, Ruben van Bommel and Brian Zaragoza.
From Spain, however, Maximo de la Cruz Ramirez says Olympiacos and Vargas have not yet reached a definitive agreement. He notes that negotiations are continuing with both Sevilla and the player, and all sides are optimistic that the deal can be closed soon.
Elsewhere, developments around Gelson Martins appear likely to have a direct effect on Olympiacos' transfer plans for the attacking flanks, as Krasnodar continues to push to sign the Portuguese winger.
Reports from Russia indicate that Krasnodar has already reached an agreement with the 31-year-old winger on personal contract terms. The annual salary on offer reportedly exceeds 2.5 million euros, clearly more than he currently earns at Olympiacos, and it has made the player receptive to a possible move to Russia.
The main obstacle remains an agreement between the two clubs. Krasnodar has moved to about 4 million euros, but Olympiacos does not appear willing to let Martins go for that figure. The Reds and Whites are seeking a sum closer to 6 million euros, and if the Russians approach that range, talks over his sale could open in earnest.
A possible Martins departure would also change the picture for reinforcing the flanks. Kostas Nikolakopoulos reported that Olympiacos may revisit Girona's Bryan Gil.
The Spanish winger is an option highly regarded by José Luis Mendilibar and could return to the forefront, even as an alternative. Vargas remains Olympiacos' No. 1 target for the position, while another club has also shown strong interest in Servette's Junior Kadile.
So, we will have to wait for more clarity on this. Something similar is happening in midfield, where Olympiacos is said to be negotiating on several fronts, including West Ham's Edson Álvarez and Racing Santander's Gustavo Puerta.
