Officials inspect arrangements at Meenakshi temple ahead of consecration; modern control room opened at temple premises
With the much-anticipated grand consecration of the Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple round the corner, top district and police officials on Friday reviewed safety and infrastructure arrangements.

District Collector Nishanth Krishna led the review of the preparatory work across the temple vicinity, accompanied by Madurai Police Commissioner S. Rajendran, and Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar.

The primary focus of the inspection was to ensure that lakhs of expected devotees and pilgrims can experience a safe, smooth, and hassle-free darshan, said a press statement from the District Collectorate.

During his visit, the Collector inspected the newly established modern control room within the temple premises, which will serve as the nerve centre for real-time monitoring throughout the festival.

To prevent bottlenecks and streamline movement, authorities have divided the festival zone into seven distinct operational zones. Clear entry and exit points, alongside prominent signages, are being set up to guide the massive influx of pilgrims, the statement added.

Addressing basic pilgrim needs, the team reviewed the status of purified RO drinking water stations, restrooms, and sanitation complexes installed along the arterial Chithirai, Avani Moola, and Masi streets.

They inspected ongoing road repair work and designated parking lots around the venue to facilitate seamless transportation.

Local bodies had been directed to place an adequate number of dustbins across all major streets to maintain continuous cleanliness, alongside the proper management and placement of temporary footwear stands.

The administration had ordered robust safety barriers and precautionary measures to be erected around all electrical transformers and power lines near the festival corridors.

To assist the public with real-time updates, guidance, and emergency support, the district administration had launched dedicated toll-free numbers 1800-425-6781 and 1800-425-6782.
