Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed that goalkeeper Diant Ramaj has returned to FC Copenhagen on loan for the 2026/27 campaign. The 24-year-old returns to Denmark after Copenhagen opened talks over a reunion last week. Get German Football News recently reported that discussions centered on another loan containing a purchase option. According to multiple reports, Copenhagen can now sign Ramaj permanently next summer for €5m.

The move could therefore bring Ramaj’s unusual Borussia Dortmund spell to a permanent end without the keeper ever making a competitive appearance for BVB. Ramaj thrived at Copenhagen during a previous loan stint in the spring of 2025. Working on loan at Heidenheim last season, Ramaj started 31 of 34 league fixtures for the Ostalbenschwaben. After serving as a Bundesliga regular last year, Ramaj doubtless doesn’t wish to return to the bench.

Dortmund signed Ramaj from Ajax Amsterdam for €5m in February 2025, handing the Stuttgart native a contract through 2029. Ramaj was viewed as a potential long-term successor to Gregor Kobel, but Dortmund immediately sent their new signing to Copenhagen for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign. Kobel remains firmly established as Dortmund’s first-choice keeper, while Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes and Silas Ostrzinski currently complete the BVB goalkeeping corps.

Ramaj’s first spell at Copenhagen produced 19 appearances, only 14 goals conceded, and ten clean sheets. The Stuttgart native helped the Danish capital city club win a domestic league-and-cup double. Copenhagen sporting director Kristjaan Speakman welcomed Ramaj’s return by praising his ambition, mentality and broader experience. Head coach Bo Svensson highlighted the keeper’s comfort in possession and ability to contribute to build-up play.

Ramaj himself described the move as one that “feels absolutely right,” noting that he had missed both the club and the atmosphere at Parken.
