"We are playing a different system to what I've been used to for the past three years. I'm playing more inside now, but he knows I can play both ways. He knows about my athleticism as well.
"It has been nice to work with his staff again, whether that's on the pitch or off the pitch. I feel like I'm improving on areas in my game.
"It has been good. I feel confident with the new manager, having worked with him before. I have an understanding of how he works and how he wants his players to work as well.
"I'm happy to get my first goal, hopefully I get many more this season and maybe even one this weekend. "
On how much more defensively demanding the Premier League is compared to two seasons ago, he said: "I don't think I realised how switched on you have to be in every moment of the game the first time around.
"You are coming up against the best wingers, strikers and midfielders in the world - and it is difficult. If you give these players time or space on the ball, they are going to punish you.
"Personally, that's what I've took on board the most this season. "
On whether Crystal Palace presents an easier challenge, he added: "Every game is going to be tough. You cannot underestimate any team in this league. Every team has their own style which they are suited to playing.
"It is going to be a different challenge this weekend, but we are prepared for it and looking forward to it. "
