Detroit will kick off its 2026 preseason against Cincinnati on Thursday. The matchup is slated for 7 p.m. EDT at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Former Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs signed with the Lions on Monday. According to Detroit's 2026 unofficial depth chart, compiled by Lions Football Communications, the former Vol is listed as the third quarterback. Jared Goff is listed as the Lions' starting quarterback, while rookie and former Illinois signal-caller Luke Altmyer is listed as second string. Dobbs played at Tennessee from 2013-16, totaling 7,138 passing yards, 53 passing touchdowns, 2,160 rushing yards, 32 rushing touchdowns, 62 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. He was selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft (135th overall). Dobbs has also played for Jacksonville, Cleveland, Tennessee, Arizona, Minnesota, San Francisco and New England in the NFL. He signed with the Lions' practice squad in 2022.
