The Philadelphia Eagles were one of four teams that oddly kept four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster. Yet, like the other three, there have been some rumors indicating that the Eagles could still make some changes at the QB position.
The Minnesota Vikings have already slimmed down a bit by sliding one of their four, 2025 undrafted signee Max Brosmer, to the practice squad. Meanwhile, the Eagles still have four, rostering Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, and fifth-round rookie Cole Payton. Yet, there could still be some movement on the Philly QB front.

Andy Dalton’s Roster Spot With Philadelphia Eagles May Not Be Secure
Hurts and Payton aren’t going anywhere this season. Yet, there have been trade rumors about McKee in the past, and he’s now entering a contract year. However, Dalton is the newcomer here after spending the past three seasons in Carolina. If any of the four were to go, the 38-year-old Dalton could be the odd man out.
According to Casino.org’s football insider Jason La Canfora, one NFL GM has doubts about Dalton sticking around on the roster.
“The Eagles are another team with an interesting situation developing at quarterback, with Philadelphia believing it may have found a steal in late-round pick Cole Payton. One longtime scout not with the Eagles was even more bullish, vowing to me that Payton ‘is going to be a starter in this league.’ Tanner McKee has also been very good in exhibition games, raising questions about where veteran Andy Dalton fits into Philadelphia’s plans, with one GM asking the question ‘Are they really going to keep Dalton?’ And there is a longer-term element to all of this. With Jalen Hurts entering the final year of his deal, it shouldn’t be surprising that Philadelphia is collecting developmental options and already looking closely at the next quarterback class, with another GM telling me the Eagles “are all over these [2027 draft] quarterbacks.”
Jason La Canfora on Andy Dalton
It’s not uncommon for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to evaluate quarterbacks in the upcoming draft class. It seems the Eagles are always toying around with the idea of adding young QBs to the roster.
That again makes Dalton’s place with the team less secure. Eventually, the Eagles may pick between McKee and/or Dalton. The question is whether a team is willing to offer anything of value for the three-time Pro Bowler. In this case, the Eagles could be waiting patiently, just in case a quarterback gets hurt and forces another team’s hand. If so, a 15-year veteran like Dalton could quickly be in high demand.
