Sruthi was admitted for delivery on Monday and according to her family, she had no underlying health complications at the time of admission. However, at around 5:30 a.m on Wednesday, her condition deteriorated, requiring an immediate emergency C-section. Following the surgery, the family was informed that the baby had died. Highlighting severe lapses, the relatives alleged that they were not informed prior to performing the emergency C-section and further claimed that the attending doctor had previously accepted a bribe.
Refuting the allegations, hospital authorities said that the emergency surgery became necessary due to an umbilical cord prolapse—a critical medical emergency where the cord drops through the open cervix ahead of the baby. The administration maintained that there was no delay or failure in treatment from the medical team’s side and that all standard emergency protocols were strictly followed to save the patient.
Following intense protests by the family and residents on the hospital premises, a team from the Punalur police station arrived at the scene to de-escalate the situation. Officers recorded a detailed statement from the child’s father, Anoop, and subsequently registered a case of unnatural death to initiate a formal investigation. The newborn’s body has been shifted to the Paripally Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
