Good morning, Caniacs! I would like to think some of you may be reading this from the Lenovo Center parking lot while tailgating for the Carolina Hurricanes’ annual Yard Sale. I’d also like to think some of you actually are tailgating for it, making an event out of the sale and having fun! If anyone comes across some cool finds, I’d love to see it posted!

It has officially been two calendar months since the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup, and I’m already jonesing to see them hit the ice again – as I imagine we all are.

But alas, I am not going to drag this out further, let’s get into the headlines!

Tracking the Stanley Cup

As of the time of writing, there is little word on where the Stanley Cup’s current whereabouts are, with the last noted day with the Cup having been Tuesday, when Jordan Martinook had it.

Nonetheless, we do have information on where it will be going in the upcoming days.

Sunday, Logan Stankoven will have his day with the Cup, with a public event hosted in Riverside Park at the Rotary Bandshell between 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM, local time.

The following Tuesday, the Cup will make its way to Hartford, Connecticut, for a special event at Dunkin’ Park – the home stadium of MiLB’s Hartford Yard Goats. The public event will be hosted between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM, and while admission is free, donations will be accepted to benefit Tunnels to Towers. This special Cup day is courtesy of equipment manager Bob Gorman, who served in the same role for the Hartford Whalers.

On Wednesday, Brandon Bussi will have his day with the Cup in Long Island, New York. According to Kevin Maher of News 12 New York, he will have two public events – both of which require no sign-up. The first will be at The Rinx at Hauppauge between 10:30 AM and 11:45 AM, and the second at Bracco’s Clam & Oyster Bar in Freeport between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

“I’m excited to see how other people are, you know, seeing the cup and taking pictures with it,” Bussi told News 12. “Seeing their joy is more important to me than actually my day.”

Brandon Bussi is bringing the Stanley Cup to LI next week and the Sound Beach native is inviting you to the party. Here are the details. @News12LI@rdel76@RTaub_@OFFICAL_LIHN@JohnOzzyTutupic.twitter.com/zFzwW9dhgx

Taking a Brief Trip Down Memory Lane

As of Friday (August 14), it has been two calendar months since the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup for the second time in the team’s history.

The memory rabbit hole sprung on due to that fact and a recent post from SleeperNHL, asking fans for the story of the greatest comeback they’d ever seen in a game. While there are numerous examples to refer to, such as the 3-0 comeback versus the New York Islanders in 2024’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, or even last season’s total flip against the Utah Mammoth during Whalers Night, I couldn’t help but think back to the Game 2 ‘Tarps Off Victory’ in the Stanley Cup Final.

It was incredible seeing how the Caniacs pulled the team back into it, and fueled their surge to a Seth Jarvis overtime victory. The magnitude of that game cannot be overstated, as it was the game to give Carolina their first lead in the series that ultimately ended in their favor in six games.

To pay homage to that moment, I clipped the Hurricanes’ goals from that game and made a mini-compilation video (featuring the voices of Mike Maniscalco and Tripp Tracy). It’s certainly one way to get psyched up for the return of hockey next month. Enjoy!

There are a lot of great comeback moments to choose from, but the Caniacs literally dragging the Carolina Hurricanes back into the fight by going 'tarps off for the boys' was crazy

Here are the Canes' goals from that insane comeback in Game 2 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final… https://t.co/xpkgyUSNqapic.twitter.com/SAh98dtZ3h

NHL News, Trade Talk, and National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins made a trade attempt for the Ottawa Senators’ first-round draft pick during the recent NHL Entry Draft that fell through, but the kicker? Apparently they were ready to ship a roster player over the border to make it happen. Dan Kingerski discussed the report, and did some analysis to deduce who that mystery player may have been.

Boston Hockey Now: Everyone loves Zdeno Chara – and next Friday, he’s going to be the center of a special game in Slovakia. Jack Studley discussed everything we know about it, as well as the Boston Bruins-loaded rosters participating in “Zee’s Final Shift”.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly scheduled to interview candidates for the General Manager role next week, so Max Smith did a little digging to see how good TurnkeyZRG – the search firm the Red Wings hired – actually is.

NHL: Thursday, the Calgary Flames announced that legendary play-by-play voice, Peter Maher, who called Calgary’s games for over 30 years and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, had passed away. Since then, members of the organization have shared what he meant to them.

TSN: The man who brought the Carolina Hurricanes their only Calder Trophy in team history, Jeff Skinner, has made the move to Switzerland, signing a contract with EHC Biel-Bienne of the National League.

Gino Hard: After 18 years on the air, Hockey Night In Canada Punjabi is officially coming to an end. Oof.
