The Columbus Clippers beat the Omaha Storm Chasers on a Fry/Frias Friday night. Ben Lively was activated off of the 60-day IL today, returning from Tommy John surgery. He got the start for Columbus, going 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed two hits and struck out three. Connor Brogdon earned his first win of the season, pitching the fifth inning and striking out one. Hunter Stanley went 2.2 innings, striking out one batter. Stanley gave up one run on three hits. Carlos Hernández earned his second save of the season with Columbus, closing out the final 1.1 innings of the game. Hernández allowed on earned run on two hits and one walk and struck out three batters.

David Fry, batting third, went 2-for-4 with 1 run, 2 RBI, and a home run.

Kyle Manzardo drove in a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth to score Daniel Schneemann. Dayan Frias went 2-for-4 with 2RBI and a double. Columbus score six runs on nine hits.

Akron RubberDucks (55-56) – AA

AKR 7 – ALT 1

The Akron RubberDucks extended their win streak to seven games with the victory over the Altoona Curve last night. Caden Favors improved to 6-6 on the season, going 7.0 innings and holding the Curve to one run on two hits and one walk. Favors struck out ten batters in his impressive start.

Izaak Martinez and Adam Tulloch pitched an inning each to finish the game. Martinez walked two and struck out two. Tulloch walked one and struck out one.

The RubberDucks offense was looking great last night, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Four of the seven runs came off the bat of lead off hitter Ryan Cesarini. Cesarini took the first pitch of the game yard with a solo home run to right field.

In the second inning, Cesarini did it again but with two runners on base. Cesarini’s three-run home run was his second of the game and eighth on the season. Cesarini finished the night going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a single, a walk, two runs, and four RBI.

In the top of the third, Akron put two runners on via a walk and a single. Alex Mooney singled to left to score a run. Luke Hill, who reached on the single, scored on a wild pitch. Akron’s final run came in the top of the eighth. With two on, a throwing error on a double steal attempt allowed Maick Collado to score.

Lake County Captains (59-50) – High A

DAY 1 – LC 5

The Lake County Captains continued the affiliate victory streak with their win over the Dayton Dragons. Jacob Zibin got the start for the Caps, giving up the Dragons only run. Zibin had a quality start with 6.0 innings of work of one run ball. He gave up three hits and a walk, and struck out seven batters. Xavier Martinez earned his third win of the season with two innings of scoreless baseball. Martinez gave up one hit, but struck out five. Cam Schuelke closed out the game on a groundout, flyout, and lineout.

In the bottom of the first, Welbyn Francisca drew a two out walk. Anthony Martinez doubled to left to put two runners on in scoring position. Riley Nelson singled to right to score Francisca.

From the fourth inning on, the game was tied. In the bottom of the eighth, the Captains got to the Dragons’ pitcher and put up four runs. With a runner on second, Garrett Howe hit a two-run home run to right.

With one on and two outs, Anthony Martinez doubled to center to score Luis De La Cruz.

A walk and a RBI single gave Lake County their final run of the night.

Hill City Howlers (48-64) – Single A

HC 11 – MB 7

Box Score

The Howlers put the cherry on top and completed the affiliate sweep, defeating the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Howlers pitching staff was not quite as dialed in as the other affiliates. Ryan DeSanto went 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks, striking out four. Keegan Zinn improved to 5-4 on the season, pitching 3.0 innings of one run ball. He gave up one hit and two walks and struck out three batters. Harrison Ruiz went 1.2 innings, giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth. He allowed four hits and two walks. Manuel Osorio came on in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, and struck out the final batter of the game.

The Howlers offense looked great, with every batter getting on base at some point. Alejandro Garza went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Jonathan Martinez went 0-for-1 but had four walks and three runs. The first run came in the top of the first on a sac fly to right for the second out of the inning. In the top of the seventh, a double steal put both runners in scoring position. Ben Cleary hit a single to left to score two and reached second on a fielding error to tie the game. Cleary stole third and Jhorvic Abreus drew a walk. With two outs, Yerlin Luis drew a walk to load the bases. Garza drew another walk to give Hill City the lead. Alejandro Blasco singled on a liner to right to score two and give the Howlers a three run lead.

In the top of the eighth, Jonathan Martinez drew another walk and stole second. Yeiferth Castillo hit a single to center and was followed by Ben Cleary drawing a walk to load the bases. With one out, Pedro Dalmagro singled to right, scoring two more. Garza came up to bat with a new pitcher and two outs. Garza hit a double to left, scoring two more to send the Howlers to the ninth with a six run lead. The final run came in the top of the ninth. With two outs a fielding error allowed Jonathan Martinez, who reached on a walk, to score from second.
