Milan set to lower Rafael Leão’s place as Amorim approves transfer

As reported by Sky Sport, via Calciomercato, Milan are open to lower their asking price for Rafael Leão.

Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has made it clear to the club hierarchy that won’t stand in their should they choose to move Leão on, which signifies that he has not been entirely convinced by what he has seen in pre-season thus far, though he remains open to giving him opportunities should he remain at San Siro.

Milan enter the new season willing to let Leão’ go for a fee in the region of €50 million. However, barring a low-ball €30m offer from Galatasaray, the Rossoneri haven’t received a notable proposal, prompting them to lower their demands. They’re now expect to be open to offers around €40–45 million.

To make matters worse, Leão has recently picked up a muscle injury and will sit out Milan’s next and final pre-season game against Manchester United, with his availability for their Serie A opener against Torino also in doubt.

Desperate times, desperate measures

Things are clearly not going the way Milan would have hoped, and Leão’s muscle injury has only made matters worse. Had Galatasaray waited a few days, their offer might have actually stood a chance to get Milan’s attention.

Now, the Rossoneri are making it clear in no uncertain terms that they want Leão gone. Interestingly, the lowering of his asking price could increase his chances of landing in the Premier League, given clubs would be more open to take him on if the risk factor drops considerably, similarly to what Liverpool did with Federico Chiesa.

However, if his injury turns out to be a bit serious, then both Leão and Milan may have to wait until at least January to part ways. And given the way things have started for Amorim, both the club and the player may find themselves in a vastly different predicament by that time.
