The Michigan Wolverines’ wide receiver room was significantly revamped from a season ago, and all signs point to this year’s group of pass-catchers having more depth, experience, physicality, speed, and most importantly, versatility.

In addition to Andrew Marsh returning for his sophomore season, Michigan brought in a couple others with major potential in Utah transfer J.J. Buchanan, Texas transfer Jaime Ffrench, and four-star high school recruits Travis Johnson and Salesi Moa. Every one of them is talented in their own right, but the thing that stands out about this room compared to year’s past is the versatility.

“Everybody has been doing great in the room,” Marsh said. “Everybody is really just stepping up their game a lot. Even all of the young guys like Ffrench, Salesi and Travis are doing great.”

Whether it’s Marsh’s fluid route-running and strength, Buchanan’s big-play ability and catch radius, or Ffrench’s blinding speed and quick-twitch footwork, each player brings a unique skillset that will frustrate opponents.

After being a weakness of the offense in recent years, Michigan’s wide receiver room has a chance to be one of the best in the Big Ten — most notably because of the one-of-a-kind repertoire that each receiver brings to the table.

“We have great receivers that play the game at a very high level,” Ffrench told the media on Thursday. “I’ve really just been picking their brains to see what I can do to build my game. We’re pretty much just living off the motto, ‘Less drama, more work.’”

Marsh has all the tools to put together a historic season as the Wolverines’ go-to wide receiver. Following a fantastic freshman year that included 45 catches for 651 yards and four touchdowns, Marsh’s production could sky rocket in 2026.

Meanwhile, Buchanan’s ability to high-point passes and overpower opposing defenders is a game-changer for Michigan. Buchanan all led Power 4 freshman pass-catchers with 10 contested catches, to go with 427 yards and five touchdowns.

“He is definitely somebody that is going to come in and make an impact for us this year,” Marsh said about Buchanan. “I feel like he is somebody who can help stretch the field a lot and is really just somebody who can help our team win.”

Despite playing in limited action as a freshman at Texas, French also has the potential to be a big part of the pass game. The former four-star recruit is a speedster, to say the least, so his quickness will help create separation and lead to big plays.

“I just want to get an opportunity to get out there and showcase what I’ve been working on over the last two years and pick up where I left off in high school,” Ffrench said. “It’s really a blessing to be able to play at a university like this.”

Additionally, Johnson and Moa are very talented freshmen and could see an uptick in targets as the season progresses. Johnson is known for his top-notch speed and catch radius, while Moa is crafty, sure-handed and can play several positions.

“We have really fast guys, but I definitely say Travis Johnson is the fastest if I have to choose,” Ffrench said. “He’s a great receiver. He has an all-around package and I feel like he can just go up and get the ball at the highest point.”

From athleticism and speed to size, technique and toughness, Michigan’s wide receiver room has a lot of good things going for it heading into the 2026 season. It has been years since the Wolverines possessed such dynamic wideouts, and the group could have a special season.
