Darian Mensah showed off dominance in convincing fashion as he and the No. 7 over the FAMU Rattlers on Thursday night.
Mensah has started the fourth year of his collegiate career, his first with the Hurricanes. Following stints at Tulane and Duke, he joined Miami with the goal of competing for a national championship. The Hurricanes reached that stage last season before losing to Indiana, making the objective a lofty one for Mensah.
That doesn’t mean he will back down form the challenge. Quite the opposite following his first two games for Miami.

In his team debut against Stanford, he threw for 401 yards and five touchdowns on 27-of-30 passing. His latest game against FAMU saw him put up 14 out of 15 completions for 252 yards and three touchdowns. This wound up for the Heisman Trophy as he starts his Miami adventure on fire.
“You know how they sometimes use that stat of more touchdowns than incompletions? Well, through two games as a Miami Hurricane, Darian Mensah has TWICE as many touchdown passes (8) as incompletions (4),” reporter David Furones wrote.

Darian Mensah and the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes easily outmatched FAMU, improving to 2-0 after winning 77-7 over the Rattlers.Miami did all of its damage in the first three quarters, going scoreless in the fourth period. They torched FAMU with 21 points in the opening quarter, then produced 28 points each in the second and third periods. The contest wasn’t even close.
Backup quarterback Luke Nickel enjoyed his time on the field, completing all eight of his passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Javian Mallory and Mark Fletcher Jr. combined for 247 yards and four touchdowns, while six different players caught touchdown passes in the receiving game.
The No. 7 Hurricanes will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. They gear up for conference action against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as kickoff takes place on Sept. 18.
