Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the all-electric GT SUV, a five-seat performance model developed in-house on the company’s AMG.EA electric vehicle platform. Sharing its underpinnings with the upcoming electric GT 4-Door Coupe, the SUV will be offered in GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63 versions, with power outputs ranging from 544 HP to 1169 HP.

The GT 53 will be the first variant to go on sale, while the more powerful GT 55 and GT 63 are scheduled to join the range in spring 2027. Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce whether the model will be introduced in India.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Exterior Design

The electric SUV measures 5084 mm in length, 2001 mm in width and 1656 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3040 mm. Its exterior combines a sloping roofline and pronounced wheel arches with design elements associated with the AMG GT range.

At the front, the SUV features a vertical-slat grille, LED headlamps with star-shaped daytime running lights and a bumper with active air flaps. The grille and Mercedes star can be specified with illumination. At the rear, six circular tail-lamp elements are standard, while a full-width light strip is available as an option.

The GT 55 and GT 63 also feature an active rear spoiler that adjusts according to driving conditions. Mercedes-AMG claims a drag coefficient of 0.28 for the GT 53 and 0.27 for the other two variants.

The SUV offers 607 litres of boot space, along with a 78-litre front storage compartment. Buyers will also be able to personalise the exterior through the Manufaktur programme, which offers more than 60 paint options and various alloy wheel finishes.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Interior and Features

The cabin combines a digital instrument cluster with a large central infotainment display. A 10.2-inch driver display and a 14-inch touchscreen are standard, while a separate 14-inch screen for the front passenger is available as an option.

The infotainment system runs Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS software and integrates AI services from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. The SUV also receives dedicated AMG applications focused on vehicle performance, setup customisation and track driving data.

The AMG Performance Menu displays information such as power output, tyre temperatures and active aerodynamic settings. The AMG Set-up application allows drivers to configure steering wheel controls and aerodynamic functions, while AMG Track Pace records lap times and telemetry data.

Other equipment includes multi-way electrically adjustable front seats, power-folding rear headrests, ambient lighting and an optional electrically dimming panoramic glass roof. A Burmester 4D sound system and a head-up display with track-related information are also available.

The Manufaktur programme extends to the interior, with different accent colours and seatbelt finishes offered as personalisation options.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Powertrain and Performance

The GT 53 uses two electric motors, one on each axle, and a two-speed transmission at the rear. The setup produces 544 HP and 800 Nm of torque. Mercedes-AMG claims a 0-100 km/hr time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/hr.

The GT 55 and GT 63 use a three-motor arrangement, comprising two axial-flux motors at the rear and one at the front. The front motor can disengage when additional all-wheel-drive traction is not required, helping improve energy efficiency.

The GT 55 develops 816 HP and 1860 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 3.1 seconds. The range-topping GT 63 produces 1169 HP and 2000 Nm, completing the same sprint in a claimed 2.7 seconds. Both variants can reach a claimed top speed of 270 km/hr when equipped with the optional Driver’s Package.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Battery, Range and Charging

The GT 53 uses a 106kWh battery pack, with a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 668 km. The GT 55 and GT 63 receive a larger 128kWh battery, with a claimed range of up to 700 km.

Both battery configurations use an 800V electrical architecture. The GT 53 supports DC fast charging at up to 600kW, while the larger battery variants support charging at up to 710kW. Mercedes-AMG estimates a 10-80 percent charging time of 11-12 minutes under suitable conditions. These charging and range figures are preliminary manufacturer claims and may vary depending on operating conditions and charging infrastructure.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Chassis and Driving Technology

Rear-wheel steering is standard across the range. The SUV also introduces AMG Active Ride Control+, a suspension system that uses hydraulic units in place of conventional anti-roll bars to manage body roll and pitch. It comes as standard on the GT 63.

The top variant also gets carbon-ceramic brakes as standard. Drivers of the three-motor versions can adjust throttle response, cornering behaviour and traction control through controls on the centre console.

An AMGForce Sport+ mode simulates the sound of an AMG V8 engine, or a six-cylinder engine in the GT 53, and incorporates simulated gearshifts. These functions are intended to provide a more traditional performance-car experience in an electric vehicle.

The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV expands the brand’s electric performance line-up with three power levels, fast-charging capability and specialised chassis technology. Its launch timing and availability in India remain unconfirmed.
