Matt Bloom, who has spent the past nine seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Rutgers Prep School, confirmed Friday he has resigned.
The move comes just over two months after legendary Hall of Fame girls basketball coach Mary Klinger announced her retirement from the helm of the girls team.
Rutgers Prep went 173-64 during Bloom’s reign, including 18-10 last year, as the club advanced to its sixth straight Somerset County Tournament final and to the sectional semifinals.

Bloom declined comment on his resignation until his replacement is named, a process that should be completed in “the next few weeks” athletics director Larry Santowasso said. Candidates include associate head coach Wil Abrams.
Santowasso also said Bloom is expected to remain at the school as a high school humanities teacher.
“Matt’s leadership and attention to detail have always been great,” said Santowasso, adding he was “surprised” by the decision. “He has continued the traditions of Rutgers Prep and we will miss him, but fortunately he is not leaving our community and our students will still have Matt’s leadership in the classroom.”
Bloom took the Argos to the county in all but one season, capturing three SCT championships. He also guided Rutgers Prep to two state sectional finals, winning the 2021-2022 Non-Public B South crown.
