It is understood that United were prepared to match Barcelona's £35 million ($47.4 million) valuation. However, Gavi has made it abundantly clear that he wishes to stay with the Spanish champions and has zero interest in moving to United. The development will be a significant disappointment to United supporters, who have grown increasingly frustrated with the club's underwhelming transfer activity this summer, as per The Mirror.

Gavi joined Barca at just 11 years old and has gone on to accumulate 119 league appearances since making his debut in 2021. He was sidelined for five months of last season following a serious knee injury. He recovered his form and fitness in March, earning a spot in the Spain squad for this summer's FIFA World Cup. He featured twice during the tournament, serving as an unused substitute in the Final, which saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0 in New York. He remains under contract at the Nou Camp until 2030, where manager Hansi Flick is unwilling to sanction his departure. Reflecting on his relationship with the Barcelona boss at the conclusion of last season, Gavi said: "I have suffered a lot, unfortunately, in these last two years. It's football. I'm at this level because of the mentality I have. It is not easy to play at this pace, coming from two serious injuries. I've done it and I'm proud. "Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He's like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It's not easy to get to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it's important for the team. He blindly trusts me." Gavi's determination to remain in Spain will compel United to seek alternatives as Carrick looks to bring in a third midfielder this summer, with time increasingly pressing. Away from their midfield concerns, United's only additional activity saw them sign goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer. The Red Devils have also parted ways with several key figures, including Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro, while goalkeepers Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir have both moved on.
