Luka Doncic has emerged as the centerpiece of head coach JJ Redick’s system in Los Angeles Lakers. With LeBron James ultimately departing the Lakers this offseason following eight seasons with the franchise, the offense is now built almost entirely around Doncic’s exceptional playmaking ability, shot creation, and high-volume pick-and-roll game.
Luka Doncic Highlights Improved Lakers Chemistry
The difference between a team that can compete in the playoffs and one capable of winning a championship is rarely determined by individual talent alone. While elite individual ability can carry teams through the regular season, championships often depend on trust, unity, and everyone committing to the same objective.
Doncic pointed to that growing sense of togetherness when discussing how the Lakers’ chemistry has changed compared to last season.
“I feel like our guys are just more bought in this year,” the report read. “Obviously, we had a really good group last season, but I think this team is a little different. Everybody is playing for each other, guys are less focused on themselves, and we all want the same thing. We want to win a championship, and I think everybody understands what it’s going to take.”
The Lakers finished last season with an impressive 53–29 record, earning the No. 4 seed in a highly competitive Western Conference. However, their postseason hopes once again came to an abrupt end. When Doncic dealt with a late-season hamstring injury and was unavailable for the playoffs, Los Angeles struggled to generate enough offense and failed to make the deep postseason run many expected.
Doncic also reflected on what he believed the Lakers could learn from last season’s playoff disappointment.
“Obviously, I wasn’t available for the playoffs, but watching from the inside, I’d say the lack of leadership was a big takeaway. I feel like we’re more equipped now than ever. We have a deeper, more experienced group, and I think we’ll be better prepared for those moments this season.”
As the Lakers prepare for the 2026–27 campaign, the front office remains focused on taking full advantage of Dončić’s prime years. Los Angeles is continuing to examine the roster for any remaining weaknesses, particularly by exploring additional frontcourt options.
Luka Doncic Emerges as Scoring Title Favorite
There is little doubt around the league that Doncic can become extremely difficult to contain when he is fully locked in offensively. Brian Windhorst and Tim McMahon recognize that potential as well. McMahon even recently selected Doncic as his pick to lead the league in scoring during the upcoming season.
“Luka’s won it twice,” McMahon said. “I think that with LeBron not being there anymore, Luka can go back to scoring how he scored in Dallas. So picking Luka makes a lot of sense. Shai can score 30 every game but he doesn’t have a lot of the 50 point games, where Luka he may score 73. Lean Luka probably still weighs 240. He’s going to still bully people. He will be scary.”
The Lakers are expected to build a roster specifically designed to complement Doncic’s strengths, while he will be tasked with proving that he can lead a championship-caliber team on his own terms in Los Angeles. The 2026–27 season could therefore represent a defining chapter in Doncic’s Lakers career.
