Building generational wealth was a priority for Logan Ryan when he entered the NFL.

Ryan was drafted in 2013, ESPN reports. He retired after playing 11 seasons with teams including the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Francisco 49ers, with a track record of 19 interceptions, 98 passes defended, 15 forced fumbles, 13 sacks, and 755 total tackles, the NFL reports.

He exited the league with a nice financial cushion. In fact, in a LinkedIn post, he claimed he made nearly $80 million during his NFL career and “never spent a dollar” of his salary. Instead, he lived off income generated through the market.

“Most guys who hit that number are broke a few years after their last check. I’ve watched it happen up close. I grew up in Berlin, New Jersey, with two loving parents who worked hard and were always home for dinner. But I got drafted 14th among corners in 2013, and that chip never left. It made me suspicious of any dollar that felt too easy to spend,” he wrote. “So I never touched the paychecks. I live on a strict budget off my portfolio, and I still ask my financial advisor more questions than anyone else on his books.”

“Here’s the part people chasing a big number keep missing. Chasing a big number was never the point. What actually bought my freedom was saving relentlessly, year after year, while everyone around me spent,” he added. “I retired at 33 and answered to no schedule but my kids’. For those working toward financial freedom, remember what that freedom is really for.”

Front Office Sports reports Ryan’s investment portfolio includes commercial real estate and investments in ChatGPT maker OpenAI, and he participates in private credit investing. He reportedly has interests in AI and crypto.

Overall, he has a combination of liquid and non-liquid investments, with greater interests in liquid assets such as stocks.
