Ethan Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympique Marseille as Arsenal looked to give him more playing time, and he experienced a mixed spell at the French club.
Roberto de Zerbi was the coach who signed Nwaneri, and the Italian relied on the Arsenal attacker soon after he arrived at Marseille. However, De Zerbi was sacked shortly afterwards, and the change in management made the situation more difficult for Nwaneri.
Nwaneri Faces Uncertain Arsenal Future
The new manager did not view Nwaneri as a regular starter, leaving the attacker struggling to secure enough playing time. His return to Arsenal has now given him another opportunity to impress, although his long-term future at the Emirates remains uncertain.
Reports suggest that clubs such as Borussia Dortmund want to sign Nwaneri this summer, but Arsenal have yet to make a final decision over his future. The Gunners believe he can develop into an important player if he remains with the team, although they could also consider allowing him to leave.
For now, Nwaneri’s performances during the pre-season appear to be working in his favour. The attacker has been playing well since returning from Marseille, giving Arsenal another reason to consider keeping him as part of their plans.
Arteta Impressed by Nwaneri’s Maturity
According to Football London, Mikel Arteta has been impressed by the maturity Nwaneri has shown since returning from his loan spell. The Arsenal manager reportedly believes the temporary move to Marseille has helped the youngster mature significantly as a player.
That development could prove important as Arsenal assess what to do next. Nwaneri experienced difficulties during his time in France, particularly after the change in management, but the spell still appears to have provided valuable experience.
Arteta will now have to decide whether Nwaneri is ready to remain with the first team and compete for opportunities, or whether another move would benefit his development. His strong pre-season form and increased maturity could make it harder for Arsenal to consider moving him on.
For Nwaneri, the priority will be continuing to perform well and showing that he can contribute at Arsenal. The youngster has returned from his loan spell with valuable experience, and Arteta appears encouraged by the progress he has made.
