Liverpool transfer news: Club president confirms Reds enter talks over massive deal Liverpool are in talks over a massive deal. Liverpool’s transfer window is starting to get interesting, but there is still a lot of work to do before anyone can say the squad is ready for Andoni Iraola. The arrival of Ronald Araújo is certainly a big step in the right direction. Liverpool needed another centre-back and the Uruguayan gives Iraola more physicality, experience and versatility at the back. Victor Munoz has also arrived, bringing some much-needed pace and energy to the attack. But two signings are not going to fix everything. Liverpool still look short in a number of areas, particularly in midfield and out wide. The pursuit of Yan Diomande was a major setback too. He was seen as one of the ideal options to replace some of the explosiveness lost from the attack, only for Real Madrid to win the race. That leaves Richard Hughes with another important decision to make. Liverpool need an alternative, and they cannot afford to spend the rest of the window simply waiting for the perfect target to become available. Then there is the midfield situation. Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones both have question marks hanging over them, and losing either would create another hole.

There is still time, but Liverpool need to start moving quickly. Araújo and Munoz are good additions. They just cannot be the end of the story. Winger is still a priority for the Reds. While Munoz adds some pace to the squad, but he is not enough to solve the problems Liverpool have out wide. At the very least, another winger needs to arrive before the window closes. Liverpool lost a huge amount of creativity and one-on-one ability with Mohamed Salah’s departure, while the attack still lacks that player who can consistently beat a defender and create something from nothing. The situation could become even more serious if Cody Gakpo leaves. Gakpo’s future is still something worth keeping an eye on, particularly with Liverpool already having other options on the left. If the Dutchman does move on, Liverpool would suddenly need two wingers, rather than one, just to maintain reasonable depth. That is the tricky part for Richard Hughes. Liverpool cannot simply bring in another squad player and call it a day. They need someone capable of genuinely competing for a starting place and giving Iraola a different option. The new manager wants pace, intensity, and players who can attack space quickly. Liverpool need to give him the tools to do that.

Munoz is a start, but the winger situation still feels unfinished. And if Gakpo goes, it becomes one of the biggest priorities of the entire window. The big priority is of course Bradley Barcola and then on top of that Liverpool are also eyeing Ibrahim Mbaye. Now, while the club's interest has been made clear for several weeks now, there hasn't been any confirmation from either party that there are active talks ongoing between the two sides. That is until Wednesday night when Paris Saint Germain's president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi was quizzed about Barcola on Canal+ after his side's triumph in the European Super Cup over Aston Villa. "We're working quietly, we don't talk about it too much. We do it. All the players are important to us. I can't say today whether he's going to leave or not," Al-Khelaïfi said. When pressed on the fact that Liverpool doesn't want to put up that much money: "We'll see... The discussion is in negotiation." That is the first proper confirmation that Liverpool are indeed in talks with PSG over this massive deal. Now it's just the waiting game for fans.
