£125m man Alexander Isak is expected to lead the line - finally getting a full preseason under his belt a year on from his move from Newcastle.
Beyond the Swede however and the pickings are slim.
Hugo Ekitike is out of commission until December at the earliest and an achilles injury means that the best of the Frenchman may not be seen again until next season.
Then there are options from within the youth and academy sides.
Liverpool ready to sanction Figueroa loan deal
We could see Will Wright come into contention following his move from Salford last year while Jayden Danns will need careful handling once again following his injury problems.
Those developments could have opened the door to Keyrol Figueroa - the 19-year-old Honduran who cannot stop scoring. The sharpshooter has featured extensively for the Liverpool under-21s in preseason - netting four goals against Celje and Cardiff City.
But it may be too soon for the former USA youth international to stake a claim for a backup place at No9 for the season ahead.
Barnsley leading chase for Figueroa
Because a report in the Liverpool Echo is claiming that the young striker is on the list for several clubs further down the football pyramid.
“Keyrol Figueroa is being tracked on loan by a number of clubs including League One side Barnsley and League Two duo Salford City and Shrewsbury Town,” the report reads.
Figueroa has been linked with a Liverpool exit ever since January when his previous contract was running down. FC Porto - as well as teams elsewhere on the continent were linked with a move for the forward but he ended up staying put at Anfield.

Keyrol Figueroa wants first-team football
This season it has been reported that Figueroa is desperate for senior football - either on loan or else with the Reds’ first team - and it looks like a loan is now the most likely.
A natural-born goalscorer Figueroa should have too much firepower for League One and League Two defences. Scoring plenty of goals however will keep him in the Liverpool spotlight and he remains a player of considerable potential.
