The Detroit Lions still have a hole in their quarterback room after Teddy Bridgewater’s abrupt retirement, but could soon have the opportunity to add a former NFL starter.

The Lions filled the void of Bridgewater’s sudden exit by signing well-traveled Joshua Dobbs, but he has turned in some pedestrian performances in the preseason. Dobbs was strip-sacked and lost an interception in the team’s last playoff game, while rookie Luke Altmyer is a work in progress.

But the Lions could have a chance to add former second-round pick Will Levis, who is seen as a cut candidate for the Tennessee Titans.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested that Levis will soon hit the open market.

“The first pick in the second round of the 2023 draft, Will Levis made 21 starts over his first two seasons. Then the Titans drafted Cam Ward first overall in 2025, and Levis was relegated to the bench,” Davenport wrote. “The Kentucky product may soon be out of Nashville altogether.”

Davenport added that the 27-year-old Levis believes he can still start in the NFL, even if he’s fallen to the No. 2 spot in Tennessee.

“I know I’ve put the tape out there already that I’m a dang good quarterback in this league and I’m even better than I ever have been,” Levis said. “There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me. I know that for sure. I’m just focused on having fun. I needed that time, not just physically, but just mentally to calm the nervous system. Where I’m at mentally is in a much healthier place than it’s ever been. I feel like I worked a lot for other people’s approval in the beginning of my career. And whereas I’m just trying to be the best version of me at this point.”

If the Lions are seeking some help beyond the veteran Dobbs, then Levis could be an intriguing option behind Jared Goff.
