The Green Bay Packers have been clear that they intend to find uses for Lambeau Field besides the team’s regularly scheduled home games, and for the first time since the team’s 2026 Shareholders’ Meeting in July, the legendary stadium has added a new event to its calendar.
On Wednesday, the Packers announced that Lambeau will play host to the Frozen Tundra Faceoff, a college hockey doubleheader featuring the Wisconsin Badgers men’s and women’s teams. The event is set to take place on Saturday, February 20th, just six days after Super Bowl LVIII. Game one will feature the defending national champion Wisconsin women’s team against their biggest recent rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, followed by the Wisconsin men taking on the University of Michigan.
On the women’s side, Wisconsin and Ohio State have dominated the college hockey landscape over the last decade. The two teams have played in the national championship game each of the last four years, with Wisconsin coming out victorious three times (2023, 2025, 2026). The Badgers also have the most national championships in NCAA women’s hockey history with nine.
Until recently, Wisconsin’s men’s team was mired in a long run of poor results, but the hiring of head coach Mike Hastings prior to the 2023-24 season gave the program a jolt. The 2025-26 season saw the Badger men win their first NCAA tournament game since 2010, and they eventually matched that team by reaching the national title game, where they fell 2-1 to the University of Denver. Meanwhile, Michigan has remained a consistent powerhouse program, earning the #1 overall seed in last year’s tournament and likewise falling to Denver, but doing so one round earlier in the national semifinals.
This will be the second time that Lambeau Field will host a hockey game and the first in 21 years. On February 11, 2006, the Wisconsin men’s team defeated Ohio State 4-2 in front of more than 40,000 fans; the Badgers went on to win the national title that year, their most recent championship on the men’s side.
The Packers announced that a ticket presale will take place on Wednesday, September 9, ahead of general public ticket sales beginning on Friday, September 11.
