Real Madrid start their 2026-27 season next week, and all of their first team players are now back at Valdebebas in preparation of the new campaign getting underway. Kylian Mbappe was one of the last to return due to his 2026 World Cup involvement, but he is ready and waiting for his third year at the club to get underway.

Mbappe, who will make his one and only pre-season friendly appearance against Schalke on Sunday, spoke to Real Madrid TV (via MD) this week upon returning to the club. He was first asked about working under Jose Mourinho, who was appointed as head coach earlier in the summer.

“We have talked a lot during the World Cup and these days here. It’s very positive to have a coach like that, who knows how to win, who knows how to give the direction of how to go to win. As a player, the players are delighted to have a coach who knows where he is going. I think it’s positive for us.”

Mbappe: We can work harder

Mbappe also spoke on his limited pre-season schedule, as well as his aims for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

“I try to do my best because it’s the moment when we can work harder. Later, when the games start it’s more of a load management. It’s time to go to the full, to have the sensations to be ready for the first game of La Liga. I think we have to win, that this year we are going to win titles. I’m sure we’re going to win titles again. It’s what we want and that’s going to happen, that’s going to happen because I feel that the team is looking forward to it. We’re going to be focused all year round to bring joy to the Madridistas. I think there is nothing more important than winning titles with the team, feeling the joy of the fans.”

He also reiterated his joy at being a Real Madrid player, as he prepares to embark on his third season at the club.

“It was a dream to come here and it’s still a dream to be here every day, to have that opportunity. I’m a boy who knows how to enjoy the present, to be here and I know how lucky I am to be here, but now we have to win. Be anywhere, but at Real Madrid you have to win titles, win things and that’s why I’m here and as I said, we’re going to win titles this year.”
