Klay Thompson gives the Miami Heat more offensive options because of his lethal 3-point shooting. After trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Heat formed a dynamic frontcourt duo with Bam Adebayo. Both big men can dominate inside the paint. They don’t shoot well, though, and could be an offensive weakness that opponents could quickly exploit.
Having a star like Thompson keeps the opposing teams on their toes. Players can’t put all their focus on Adebayo and Antetokounmpo. However, paying more attention to the four-time champion isn’t the best strategy, since both big men could carry an entire team with their elite inside game.
On Wednesday, the Heat posted a video of Klay Thompson on their social media pages. In the footage, the five-time champion looks forward to making history with the franchise with an interesting question.

The Heat’s single-season record for 3-pointers made was set by Duncan Robinson in the 2019-20 campaign with 270. This isn’t a difficult feat for Thompson. In his career, he has made at least 270 3-pointers twice. The most shots he made from beyond the arc was 301, during the 2022-23 season.
Thompson is looking forward to making a massive impact in his first season with the Heat. The former No. 11 pick is likely to be the Heat’s go-to 3-point shooter next season.
Klay Thompson’s Father Warns Haters Who Think He’s Washed
Klay Thompson hasn’t been at his best for the past two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. The former Golden State Warriors star logged the lowest numbers of his career, averaging 12.9 points on 38.7% shooting from deep. Before he signed a two-year deal with the Heat, there were doubts about what Thompson could still do on the court.
Many fans believe that he isn’t the same player as he once was and is “washed.” However, his father, former NBA player Mychal Thompson, sent a warning ahead of the 2026-27 season about concerns over his son.
“If people don’t think Klay can be Klay anymore, leave him open. Don’t guard him. Don’t face guard him. I see people still bear-hugging him and not leaving him open for a second,” Thompson said.
“So if he’s not Klay anymore, leave him open and give him open shots. Let’s see what happens.”

Thompson is excited to join a contending team after two disappointing seasons with the Mavericks. Although he logged career lows in Dallas, things might change now that he’s in Miami and he has a chance to contribute to a contending team.
