DONCASTER, ENGLAND - JULY 29: Kieran Trippier of Wolverhampton Wanderers applauds fans after a victory against Doncaster Rovers at Eco-Power Stadium on July 29, 2026 in Doncaster, England. (Photo by Brett Patzke - WWFC/Wolves via Getty Images) | Wolves via Getty Images Newcastle United has undergone an extraordinary facelift over the past few months, with several of the players who helped transform the club under Eddie Howe leaving Tyneside to continue their careers elsewhere. Former Magpies right back Kieran Trippier, whose deal expired at the end of last season, has now unexpectedly addressed his own departure from Newcastle. Although he could have signed a new deal to extend his tenure in Tyneside, which he didn’t, Trippier insists he never wanted to leave Newcastle and appeared to take a pointed swipe at the circumstances surrounding Bruno Guimaraes’ £75 million transfer to Arsenal, which was confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 8. Chronicle Live reported that Trippier responded on X with a now-deleted post after his name was mentioned on Aug. 8, during a discussion about Guimaraes and Newcastle players who had previously been linked with moves away from St. James’ Park. “Didn’t want out. But didn’t & couldn’t get a super agent,” Trippier wrote, adding laughing and shrugging emojis. The comments are particularly notable given the timing. Guimaraes’ move to Arsenal was confirmed Saturday following weeks of uncertainty, with agent Kia Joorabchian playing a prominent role in facilitating the Brazilian’s exit, according to the Daily Mail. Trippier, contrary to what Bruno did as the Brazilian asked to leave before his contract ran out, remained with Newcastle until his contract expired this summer before joining Wolves as a free agent. The defender originally arrived from Atletico Madrid for £12 million in January 2022 and ultimately made 160 appearances for Newcastle. “I’m devastated to be leaving,” Trippier said after his last game with the Magpies. “But this is football. Players come and go. It is an amazing stadium with amazing supporters, amazing people in the city. I’ve never felt emotional like this when leaving a club; this is the longest I’ve ever been at a club.” What do you make of Trippier’s comments, and do you think his “super agent” remark was aimed directly at the circumstances surrounding Bruno’s move to Arsenal?
